Odisha COVID Vaccine Update: Prisoners To Be Vaccinated Inside Jails
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has decided to inoculate prisoners above 60 years of age and others over 45 years with comorbidities on the jail premises itself. The government has asked the jail superintendents to make the process a smooth one.
“Since prisoners have no access to the outside world, we have decided to vaccinate them during the government’s vaccination drive. The superintendents have been asked to coordinate with the chief district medical officers, chief medical officers and concerned district authorities for a smooth vaccination drive,” director general of police (prisons and correctional services) Santosh Upadhyay was quoted as saying by The Times of India.
There are a total of 18,900 prisoners in 86 jails across the state. Jails are considered the most vulnerable for the transmission of the virus.
