Jharsuguda: Stepping up the investigation into the sensational murder of senior Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader Naba Kishore Das, Odisha Crime Branch interrogated some more people on Friday.
A Crime Branch team led by Additional SP Bijay Kumar Mallick began fresh investigation by interrogating several persons in Jharsuguda district in connection with the murder case.
As per sources, the Crime Branch team recorded the statements of Rajpur Sarpanch Saraswati Nayak’s husband Ganesh Bag.
The team also questioned Rajpur gram panchayat’s Paveen Deo as prime accused Gopal Das had made a phone call to him a few hours before the daylight murder of Naba Das. The probe team is trying to ascertain the reasons behind Gopal Das’ phone call to Praveen Deo just before the murder.
Some more people are expected to be interrogated by the investigating team in connection with the sensational murder case.
It may be recalled that Naba Kishore Das was shot at in broad daylight on January 29, 2023 at Brajarajnagar when he was the Health Minister. Gopal Das, an on-duty police official, allegedly fired at him from a close range while the then Minister was alighting from his car to attend a meeting. Naba Das later declared dead at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.
The then BJD government handed over the probe to the Crime Branch. After the BJP came to power in the state, the investigative agency carried out the investigation actively into the high-profile murder case from March this year.
