Odisha DGP Holds Preparatory Meet On Rath Yatra In Puri
Cuttack: In view of the Rath Yatra (car festival) scheduled to be held in Puri on June 20, Odisha’s Director General of Police (DGP) Sunil Kumar Bansal held a preparatory meeting with senior officers on Monday.
At the meeting, held at State Police Headquarters in Cuttack, the DGP said different rituals will be performed on different dates as per the tradition of Jagannath temple during the car festival. As per the schedule, Nabajauban Darshan will be held on June 19, Rath Yatra on June 20, Bahuda Yatra on June 28, Suna Besha on June 29 and Niladri Bije on July 1..
Since lakhs of people from across the country will throng Puri during this festival, Bansal called upon the officers to be proactive and maintain extra vigil to ensure smooth celebration of the festival.
Following a detailed discussion on various security arrangement related issues in the meeting, the following decisions were taken:
- Elaborate security arrangements will be made during the major events of car festival like Nabajauban Darshan, Sri Gundicha Yatra, Bahuda, Suna Besha etc.
- Requisition of RAF and CRPF well ahead of time to provide extra security coverage.
- Assignment of specific duties to senior Police Officers.
- Requisition of bomb disposal squads/HHMDs, DMFDs and Metal Detectors.
- Counter intelligence squads.
- VVIPs security.
- Communication arrangements and preparation of a comprehensive plan/arrangement allotting different channels.
- Provision of Cranes/Vehicles/other gadgets.
- Installation of CCTV cameras.
- Provision of Road Divider/Delineator and Traffic cones.
- Strengthening Beach patrolling.
- Issues related to Bus-Operators.
- Opening of Temporary Police Aid posts.
- Regulation of Traffic.
- Accommodation of Officers/Force
