Odisha Elections: BJP Moves EC Accusing BJD Leader V K Pandian Of Violating MCC During Hospital Visit
Bhubaneswar: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday moved Odisha’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) against Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader V K Pandian accusing him of violating the model code of conduct (MCC) which is in force for the upcoming twin elections.
In a complaint, BJP alleged that 5T and Nabin Odisha chairman V K Pandian openly violated the model code of conduct during his visit to the SCB Medical College and Hospital to see the patients who were injured in the bus accident in Jajpur.
During his visit to the hospital, Pandian was accompanied by Transport Commissioner Amitabh Thakur and Jajpur Superintendent of Police Vinit Agrawal, it claimed. The BJD candidate for Choudwar-Cuttack Assembly constituency also accompanied them, it said.
The arrangements made by the Commissionerate Police for Pandian’s visit to the hospital were in gross violation of the model code of conduct, BJP said, adding if such things happen, it would not be possible to conduct free and fair election in Odisha.
Demanding action against Pandian for violation of model code of conduct, BJP urged the Election Commission to take necessary steps to ensure free and fair election in the state.
Pandian and other senior BJD leaders were not immediately available for comment on the allegation made by BJP.
