Odisha Excise SI Transferred, Faces Police Case Over Torture Of Youth

Kendrapada: A police case has been registered against Pattamundai Excise Sub-Inspector (SI) Chhayakanta Nayak, who was also transferred, following allegation of torturing a youth in Odisha’s Kendrapada district.

According to sources, a case has been registered against Nayak and five other excise personnel at Rajnagar Police Station of Kendrapada district.

Nayak has been transferred to District Headquarters following allegation of third-degree torture on a youth.

The action came following allegation that Binod Kumar Das, a resident of Baradia v

illage of Rajnagar, was tortured by the excise officials. Complaints were made to the district collector along with Chief Minister and Rajnagar police station.

This apart, Excise ASI Pradeep Kumar Malik and Constable Ramakrushna Jena have been transferred to Aul Excise Department.

In his complaint, Binod alleged that he was forcibly taken into a vehicle and brutally beaten after recording a video during an excise raid in Baradia village. The incident reportedly stemmed from a crackdown on an alleged illegal liquor trade in the area.

The complainant had earlier informed the Excise Department about the alleged illicit liquor business. Subsequently, SI Chhayakanta Nayak and other excise personnel conducted a raid at the location. During the operation, Binod allegedly recorded a video of the operation.

The youth claimed that excise officials got annoyed over the video recording, took him into custody, and assaulted him inside a vehicle. He further alleged that he was detained at Rajnagar Police Station for nearly 12 hours.

Following a written complaint lodged by Binod, Rajnagar Police registered a case against SI Nayak and five others and initiated an investigation into the matter.
