Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday warned of heavy rainfall in Odisha under the influence of the well-marked low pressure area over Southwest & adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal off South Andhra Pradesh-North Tamil Nadu coasts.
Yellow warning has been issued for Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nayagarh, Kandhamal , Khurda, Cuttack, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Puri, Koraput and Malkangiri districts.
Light to moderate rain is also likely at most places in coastal Odisha ,South Interior Odisha and at many places in North Interior Odisha.
It further stated that the rains may damage horticulture and standing crops, including paddy.
Dense fog may also occur at one or two places in Bargarh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sambalpur, Balangir and Sonepur and shallow to moderate fog in Dhenkanal, Angul, Boudh, Kandhamal and Kalahandi till Thursday morning.
The intensity of rain may subside thereafter as the system is expected to move northwestwards and weaken gradually into a low pressure area over Westcentral & adjoining Southwest Bay of Bengal off South Andhra Pradesh-North Tamil Nadu coasts during the next 24 hours.
Light rain, however, may continue at one or two places in Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal , Rayagada, Gajapati and Ganjam on Thursday.
Yellow warning of dense fog has been issued for one or two places in Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri districts till Friday morning. Shallow to moderate fog may also occur at one or two places in Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Balangir, Jharsuguda and Nuapada.
The weather agency added that there will be no large change in the night temperature for the next 4-5 days across the state.
