Balasore: The Special Vigilance Court in Balasore on Friday convicted two persons in a corruption case, involving the misappropriation of government funds allocated for school infrastructure under the Sarba Sikhya Abhiyan (SSA) scheme.
Suresh Chandra Das, the retired former in-charge headmaster of Achutananda Nodal Upper Primary School at Rasalpur in Balasore district, and Govinda Behera, the school’s former Village Education Committee (VEC) president, were found guilty of embezzling SSA funds provided in 2011 for constructing an additional classroom at the school, without carrying out the actual work.
The court sentenced each convict to three years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000.
Following the conviction, Odisha Vigilance authorities announced plans to approach the competent authority to halt the pension benefits of Das.
