Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government will soon submit a revised metro rail project proposal for Bhubaneswar to the central government, Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mohapatra informed on Thursday.
Following the second meeting of the ministerial sub-committee on the metro project, the Minister announced the formation of a new technical committee, which will visit different cities to study the project’s feasibility, explore potential routes, and prepare a detailed report on the new tracks.
“A comprehensive mobility plan is already in place, and the technical committee will determine the metro lines and parking locations. Public input will also be sought before finalising the blueprint,” the minister added.
He clarified that the previous metro plan was scrapped due to traffic congestion issues on the proposed route. “Even during the testing phase, the route caused significant inconvenience, and construction would have severely disrupted traffic. The new committee will propose an alternative route to address these issues,” Mohapatra said.
He further noted that Odisha will execute it as a joint venture with the Centre’s help and technical know-how.
