Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Sunday announced that financial assistance under the Subhadra scheme will be credited to the bank accounts of newly registered beneficiaries on January 22.
The new date of disbursal was announced by Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida in a post on X. Earlier, the disbursement date was fixed for January 18, but officials revised the schedule to ensure proper verification and inclusion of all eligible women.
The scheme, which provides Rs 5,000 in direct financial support to women, is one of the state government’s flagship initiatives aimed at empowering women and strengthening household incomes.
According to government figures, 4,57,681 women across Odisha will benefit in this phase. The beneficiaries include three categories: newly registered women, those reinstated after verification, and women added during grievance redressal hearings. Speaking about the initiative,
“The Subhadra scheme is not just financial assistance; it is a step towards empowering women and ensuring their active participation in the state’s development. The disbursement to new beneficiaries on January 22 will further expand the reach of this program and uplift more families across Odisha,” said Parida, who also holds Women and Child Development portfolio.
Authorities have assured that the disbursement will be carried out in a transparent and phased manner. Digital platforms will be used to track fund transfers, while local self-help groups (SHGs) and panchayat-level committees are assisting in the verification process to ensure that no eligible woman is left out.
The announcement has been welcomed by women’s groups and community leaders, who see the scheme as a vital support system for households struggling with rising costs of living. Many expressed hope that the expansion will bring relief to families in rural and semi-urban areas, while also encouraging women to take part in community development.
