Bhubaneswar: With flood fury subsiding in Odisha, the state government on Monday announced compensation up to Rs 1.20 lakh each for families whose houses have been completely destroyed in the recent floods.
Sharing this information, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari told reporters in Bhubaneswar that the government has initiated assessment of flood-related losses in areas where floodwaters have completely receded.
Officials from the Revenue and Agriculture departments have been deployed to conduct a detailed assessment of the damage caused by the floods.
As per the relief package, families whose houses have been fully damaged will receive compensation of up to Rs 1.20 lakh each. Those with partially damaged kutcha houses will be provided Rs 4,000 each, while households with fully damaged huts will receive Rs 8,000 each.
To mitigate the plight of farmers affected by floods, the government has also announced compensation for agricultural losses. Farmers will receive Rs 8,500 per hectare for crop damage caused by the floods in rainfed (unirrigated) land. For irrigated land, the compensation will be Rs 17,000 per hectare and for long-duration/perennial crops it will be Rs 22,500 per hectare
The government will also provide compensation for loss of human life and livestock as per details given below:
Loss of human life: Rs 4 lakh
Death of a cow: Rs 37,500
Death of a bull or buffalo: Rs 32,000
Death of a calf: Rs 20,000
Death of a goat or sheep: Rs 4,000
The minister also said Rs 1.05 crore will be provided to an official from the Fire Service department who had died during a rehabilitation operation.
Noting that the floods have affected 22 districts, the Minister said areas covering 85 blocks and 1,458 villages have been hit by the natural calamity across the state. As many as 8,63,909 people have been impacted by the floods in different parts of the state.
Pujari said the assessment process is progressing in areas where water has receded completely, and the findings will help the government extend relief and rehabilitation assistance to the affected families at the earliest.
