Bhubaneswar: With onion prices rising steadily, the state government has directed the district collectors to keep a close watch on the price and the traders.
In a letter, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare secretary VV Yadav said though the prices are rising due to the loss of crop in the procuring states, unscrupulous traders may resort to unfair practices and sell onion at an exorbitant price.
Since Odisha depends on import of onion from other states, Yadav asked the collectors to keep a close watch on the price and availability of onion in the market.
He also told the officers to utilise the services of the field functionaries to frequently inspect both the wholesale and retail business premises. Ensure availability of onion at reasonable prices to the customers, he added.
