Bhubaneswar: Taking note of more recovered COVID-19 patients afflicted with the deadly black fungus (mucormycosis), the Odisha government on Friday formed a seven-member state-level committee.
The committee led by Prof Nirupama Chayani, Head of the Department of Microbiology of the SCB Medical College and Hospital as chairman has Director, Public Health Dr Niranjan Mishra as the convener and cardiologist Prof Jyoti Patnaik, medicine specialist Prof Jayant Kumar Panda, Prof Subhabrat Parida, Proft Subrat Behera (ENT) and Prof Prasannajit Mohanty (Dermatologist) as the other members.
As per the directive of the Health Department, the committee will examine the patients afflicted with black fungus at the SCB and formulate guidelines for the treatment of the disease.
In case a patient afflicted with black fungus is admitted to any government, private, missionary and corporate hospital, the authorities of the concerned hospital will send the documents pertaining to the diagnosis and test of the patient and send them to the e-mail of the Director, Public Health.
Apart from this, the Health Department has also directed all state-run government medical colleges and hospitals to form a specialist committee to identify the patients.
