Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Friday announced a substantial hike in the material cost under the centrally sponsored PM POSHAN scheme.
According to an official notification issued by the School and Mass Education Department, the revised cost structure effective from May 1, 2025, aims to improve nutrition among school children across the state.
The Central government has revised the per-student, per-day cooking cost to Rs 6.78 for Primary and Rs 10.17 for Upper Primary school students. In addition to this central assistance, the Odisha government will continue to contribute Rs 1.45 and Rs 1.65, respectively, for these two categories.
Going a step further, the state government has decided to add another Rs 2.92 per student per day across both groups to facilitate the inclusion of items like Nutritional Laddoos and an additional egg, intended to boost protein intake and dietary diversity.
With this, the total material cost per child per day now stands at Rs 11.15 for Primary and Rs 14.74 for Upper Primary students.
