Odisha Govt Increases Daily Allowance Of Home Guards
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has increased the daily allowance of the home guards on the direction of the Supreme Court.
An official order of the Home (Civil Defence) department, issued on Thursday, stated that the government has increased the duty call-up allowance of home guards from Rs 423 to Rs 533 per day as per the judgment of the Supreme Court. The revised allowance will be effective from April 1, 2023.
The order also said under the existing policy expenditure, duty call-up allowance is payable by the agency at whose instance the home guards are deployed on duty.
It may be noted that home guard Ranjan Kumar Mallik of Oupada under Bari police station had written a letter to President Droupadi Murmu on May 30 seeking permission for mercy killing for being unable to sustain his family from the salary despite approaching highest court of the country.
Mallik stated that he was posted as commander of the home guards of the district and also the president of the Nikhil Utkal Maharakhi Mahasangh. But he had failed to live up to the expectation of 17,000 home guards and their families.
