Bhubaneswar: Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida inaugurated Kalika, a dedicated crèche facility designed to offer safe, nurturing day-care support for the children of working mothers and staff, at Kharavel Bhawan here on Monday.
The initiative is aimed at strengthening work–life balance within government establishments and marks a significant step toward fostering inclusive and empathetic workplace ecosystems in Odisha.
Offices of as many as 11 departments of the state government function in this building.
The facility has colourful activity zones and trained caregivers. The environment is tailored for learning, play and emotional well-being of children while parents — especially mothers — can carry out their professional duties without stress. “Kalika is an important intervention in building a workplace where motherhood and professional responsibility go hand in hand. When employees feel supported, productivity and dignity grow together,” said DC-cum-Additional Chief Secretary Anu Garg.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal Secretary, Housing & Urban Development Department, Usha Padhee emphasised the larger cultural significance of the initiative. “A child-friendly space like Kalika sends a message — that care is part of our work culture. This initiative will ease the lives of working mothers and foster an environment where children can flourish with love, learning and security,” she said.
In August, the Deputy CM had virtually inaugurated the first public breastfeeding room at the office of the Odisha State Commission for Women during the state-level celebration of World Breastfeeding Week. She further stated that similar breastfeeding spaces should be established at railway stations, bus stands, markets and other public places to support working and lactating mothers.
