Cuttack: The Odisha government on Saturday ordered a probe by a technical committee into the mishap during the construction so a bridge in Cuttack in which three workers were killed and two others critically injured.
The government constituted a three-member committee headed by the Engineer-in-Chief to probe the mishap which took place during the construction bridge over Kathajodi River near Khannagar in Cuttack in the evening.
Works Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, who visited the construction site and the hospital where injured workers are undergoing treatment, told reporters that the government had formed the technical team to probe the accident.
“A three-member team headed by Engineer-in-Chief Laxmikant Padhi will probe the circumstances that led to the accident. The Chief Engineer and ADM General will be part of the probe panel. The team will submit the inquiry report within 15 days. Action will be taken against those found guilty as per the rules,” the Minister said.
Earlier, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced an ex-gratia compensation of Rs 5 lakh each for the next of kin of the three persons killed in the tragic bridge collapse incident.
The Chief Minister also issued direction for conducting an investigation into the mishap.
