Odisha Govt Restructures Police Service, Increases Cadre Strength
Bhubaneswar: In yet another decision ahead of elections, the state government on Monday announced restructuring of the Odisha Police Service and an increase in cadre strength to 873.
Several new posts have been created while many old ones have been abolished to make the cadre more effective for maintenance of law and order, stated a notification of the Home Department on Monday.
The cadre restructuring that will come into immediate effect has been approved by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and concurred by Finance, Law and GA and PG Departments.
As per the notification, the cadre strength of OPS Grade-A (JB) has been increased from 611 to 613, OPS Group-A (SB) from 155 to 200, OPS (Supertime Scale) from 25 to 43 and OPS Supervisor (Administrative Grade) from seven to 17.
There will be interchangeability of posting between OPS (STS) and OPS (SAG) giving flexibility to government in posting experienced persons in senior positions in the field, the notification stated.
Among the posts abolished are two Additional SP Special Branch and two Additional SP State Police Headquarters in the OPS Group-A (SB) Level 13 posts while 10 new ranks and 49 posts have been created.
Likewise, in the OPS (STS) Level 14 posts, 13 new ranks with 28 posts have been created while three including five SP Vigilance, one DCP Headquarters under Police Commissionerate and four SP, Railways Provisional posts have been abolished.
In the OPS (SAG) Level 15 rank, three new posts have been created including five SP Vigilance, one DCP (Headquarters) Police Commissionerate and four SPs.
