Odisha Govt Signs Pact For Skill Development Of SHG Members In Apparel Manufacturing

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Friday signed an agreement with Apparel Made-ups & Home Furnishing Sector Skill Council (AMHSSC) to launch an initiative for skill development of Mission Shakti SHG members in apparel manufacturing.

Carrying forward the government’s commitment to the promotion of entrepreneurship among women through  formation of micro enterprises of Mission Shakti SHGs, the Department of Mission Shakti signed the pact with New Delhi-based AMHSSC.

The initiative, titled “Skill-based training of Mission Shakti Women Self Help Group  Members as Sewing Machine Operators”, aims at skill development of 10,000 SHG members in apparel manufacturing. It will ensure generation of skilled manpower in the sector, provide self-employment opportunities across the state and create organised micro enterprises in local apparel industry through Mission Shakti.

This intervention will enhance the abilities of SHG members with  basic tailoring skills to a higher level of tailoring in order to increase market employability. It will further equip SHGs/Producer Groups (PGs) with skills and opportunities for round-the-year engagement in order to ensure the long-term viability of tailoring units led by SHGs and PGs.

The project is set to be executed over the course of 18 months. After the training, AMH SSC will assist the SHG members in establishing their tailoring units. AMH SSC  will also facilitate industry partnership with the apparel sector.
