Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has decided to appoint ‘Sishu Sebikas’ (childcare assistants) in Sishu Vatikas, a CMO release said on Sunday.
Under the National Education Policy, Odisha has already operationalised Sishu Vatikas at government-run primary schools across the state to extend pre-school education to children in the 5-6 years age group from the current academic session.
The introduction of Sishu Sebikas is seen as a key step to support teachers in managing younger children more effectively in classrooms. This will allow teachers to focus solely on academic activities. The number of Sishu Sebikas appointed at each Sishu Vatika will depend on the enrollment of children at these facilities.
They will receive salaries equivalent to those of the midday meal cooks, funded under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan. it added.
Chief Minister Mohan Majhi expressed confidence that the initiative will significantly enhance the quality of pre-school education in the state.
