Bhubaneswar: In order to extend medical services at the doorsteps of the people in remote corners, the Odisha government would construct black-topped roads to the villages having more than 100 population.
This was stated by Minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Rabi Narayan Nayak during a review meeting on the performance of the department on Tuesday.
“The list of villages has already been prepared and the government targets to construct 350 km of roads to those villages under PM JANMAN Yojana. Since the ambulances were not able to reach these villages and carry even critical patients and pregnant women for lack of approachable roads, the government would give top priority to the works,” said the minister.
He further said the construction of bridge-cum-barrages would be taken up to provide irrigation water to the farmers. Besides, the roads constructed under PM Gram Sadak Yojana and CM Sadak Yojana would be developed into two-way roads.
Directing the officials to ensure that the quality of the works is not compromised, he warned of stern action against them and the contractors in case of negligence in this regard.
The government targets to construct 200 such bridges in coming 100 days, Nayak said adding that only local people would be engage in all the works of his department.
