Bhubaneswar: As extreme heat conditions prevailed across Odisha, the state government on Tuesday announced that there will be no power cut during peak hours of Summer this year.
Deputy Chief Minister K V Singh Deo, who holds Energy portfolio, said that the discoms have been asked to refrain from cutting power supply, especially during day time of the Summer.
While power disruption is taking place due to thunderstorm activities at some places, the supply is being restored immediately, he said, adding that arrangements are being made to ensure supply even when electric poles get uprooted.
The Deputy CM also assured people that unpaid bills will not lead to power disconnection during summer this year. “There will be no power disconnection due to unpaid bills during summer. However, the consumers will have to clear the dues,” he said.
The heatwave, which returned to the state after a brief spell of thunderstorm activities, is getting intensified aross the state, particularly in western region.
By 11.30 am on Tuesday, the mercury had touched 42.6 degree C in Jharsuguda., while state capital Bhubaneswar recorded 35.4 degree C.
