Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government is set establish a world-class Shri Jagannath Museum, Library and Culture Research Centre in Puri, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi announced here on Friday.
Addressing a press meet in Bhubaneswar, the Chief Minister said that the proposed museum will be set up within a dedicated campus which will have a Jagannath research center and a library. It will act as a centre for the promotion and preservation of Jagannath culture and literature.
Set to become an important cultural and educational landmark, the unique complex is expected to play a pivotal role in the study, documentation, and promotion of the rich culture and heritage of Lord Jagannath.
This apart, the premises will house an auditorium with 300 seating capacity. It will be equipped to host daily light and sound shows, offering immersive experiences into Lord Jagannath’s history and mythology. A large open-air stage will also be constructed to showcase cultural performances by artistes, further enriching the visitor experience.
This initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing cultural tourism in Odisha while honouring the spiritual and artistic legacy of Lord Jagannath.
Stressing that a large number of tourists, especially the youth, visiting Puri are not aware of the rich Jagannath culture and heritage, Majhi said little has been done in this regard for the last seven decades. For the promotion and preservation of Jagannath culture and literature, the government has now decided to set up this world-class centre in Puri.
“The museum, along with the research center and library, will be established in one premises. It will play a pivotal role in the study, documentation, and promotion of the rich heritage of Lord Jagannath,” he said.
