Bhubaneswar: A day after the Home Ministry’s go head, the Odisha government on Friday gave Shree Jagannath Temple (SJTA) the permission to start construction of chariots for this year’s Rath Yatra in Puri within national lockdown guidelines.
Earlier in the day, SJTA chief administrator Krishan Kumar had said that the ‘Rath’ construction work will be taken up in 200 sq feet area at Ratha Khala outside Jagannath Temple, which will be declared as a restricted zone.

Meanwhile, Chhatisa Nijog expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and home Minister Amit Shah for allowing the chariot construction work despite the lockdown norms, restricting religious congregation.
The apex body of priests also thanked Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for the prompt action to protect the tradition of Jagannath Temple and Rath Yatra.
The Nijog also requested the sevaks involved in construction work to follow all necessary health precautions and maintain social distancing.
