Odisha GST Collection Recovers For First Time This Fiscal In July

Bhubaneswar: The collection of Goods and Services Tax (GST) in Odisha witnessed a positive growth in July for the first time this fiscal even as negative trend continued in gross GST collection.

The Odisha GST (OGST) collection in July went up to Rs 794.02 crore against Rs 702.44 crore in the same month last year, registering a growth of 13.04 per cent, said an official after SK Lohani, Commissioner of Commercial Tax and GST, reviewed the GST collection with the senior officials on Saturday.

But the negative trend of the first quarter on the impact of economic slowdown due to COVID-19 pandemic continued for the gross GST collection in July. The gross GST that includes OGST, IGST, CGST and cess was Rs 7540 crore with a negative growth rate of 28 per cent in the month.

The cumulative Odisha GST collection till July was Rs 2,354 crore registering a negative growth rate of 22 per cent. The collection from the non-GST items like petroleum products has also shown encouraging trend this July, the official said.

Meanwhile, the July GST collection at national level came down far below the expectation of Rs 1 lakh crore to Rs 87,422 crore.

The collection in April was Rs 32,294 crore which was 28 per cent of the same month collection last year and in May, it was Rs 62,009 crore which was 62 per cent of the last year’s corresponding period. Only in June, the GST collection recovered to touch Rs 90,917 crore.
