Jharsuguda: Almost a week after the death of his cook in his official residence, Health and Family Welfare Minister Naba Kishore Das has issued a statement on the matter.
The minister had been silent on the alleged suicide of his cook Lalita Kumar Sahu in the staff quarters of his official residence in Jharsuguda so far. Three days after Lalit was found hanging in his quarters on Sunday, opposition BJP alleged the minister’s complicity in the case and demanded a high-level inquiry.
In his response to the BJP’s allegation, the minister on Saturday said the matter was under investigation and police were doing their job. “The law will take its own course and opposition parties should not try to take political mileage out of an unfortunate incident,” he said.
The 22-year-old cook, Lalit, belonging to Dhenkanal, was staying in the staff quarters of minister’s residence along with his elder brother Biranchi Sahu after getting the job around a year back. He was found hanging in his quarters on last Sunday.
Jharsuguda Town police had seized the body. After the post-mortem was conducted the same evening, the police handed over Lalit’s body to his family.
The BJP raised doubt over the hasty manner the police completed the post-mortem process in night and handed over Lalit’s body to his family for cremation. Alleging that the Health minister was involved in the incident, the saffron party demanded a high-level probe into the case.
