Odisha Hockey Star Sunita Lakra Ties The Knot

Rourkela: The loud ringing of church bells announced the wedding of former Indian women’s hockey team captain and Olympian Sunita Lakra with Suman Deepak Toppo on Friday.

They took the wedding vows at Rajgangpur’s Keshramal Church In Sundargarh district in the afternoon.

 

Deepak, a native of Kiralaga village under Subdega block in Sundargarh district, works with Odisha Reserve Police (Rourkela).

Several former and present international players like Amit Rohidas, Olympians Namita Toppo and Lalima Minj, former Olympian Lazarus Barla and former international players Rozaline DungDung, Gloria DungDung, Stanley Victor Mind and Susheela Chanu, attended the wedding and blessed the newlywed couple.

Sunita made her international debut in 2009 and since has been a backbone of the Indian team. The experienced hockey defender from Odisha had lead the 18-member Indian women’s team in Asian Champions Trophy Hockey Tournament, which was played in Korea in May this year. She completed the milestone of playing 100 international matches for the country in 2017.
