Bhubaneswar: Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, who is also the chairman of the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA), on Wednesday conducted an on-site inspection of ongoing Town Planning (TP) Schemes and the ambitious New City project, on the outskirts of the Odisha capital.
Mahapatra visited TP Scheme Nos. 1, 2 and 3 located in Bijipur, Paikarapur and Sahajpur villages and later inspected the site earmarked for the New City project. He also took stock of physical progress and held discussions with senior officials of BDA and the Housing & Urban Development department, stressing the importance of timely completion and strict adherence to planning standards.
The Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to expanding TP schemes across the peripheral areas of the capital as part of its broader vision to develop Greater Bhubaneswar. He emphasised that these initiatives, part of the ‘Samrudha Sahara’ programme, will promote systematic land reconstitution, orderly growth and substantially improved civic amenities for residents.
The Minister highlighted that the schemes align with the Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) 2010, which includes a proposed 65-km ring road around the Bhubaneswar development area. He added that besides better connectivity and livability, the reconstituted plots retained by original landowners will see a significant increase in market value.
Mahapatra also reviewed the progress of the New City project, which will be developed on around 800 acres across Gothapatna, Daspur, and Malipada. The project aims to create an inclusive and resilient urban ecosystem that will foster multi-dimensional economic growth within the Bhubaneswar Development Plan Area.
The Minister informed that an MoU has already been signed with Singapore-based Surbana Jurong Infrastructure Private Limited, which will provide technical expertise for this landmark urban initiative. A market feasibility study has already been carried out for the project with the help of global firm JLL, he added.
