Barabanki: In a bizarre incident, a woman died after being operated upon by a drunk quack in the Kothi police station area of Barabanki in Uttar Pradesh.
The police are now on the lookout for Gyan Prakash Mishra who allegedly carried out the surgery after watching the procedure on YouTube. A search has also been launched for Mishra’s nephew, who allegedly assisted him in the operation theatre.
Munishra Rawat, wife of Tehbahadur Rawat, was suffering from abdominal pain and her husband took her husband took her to Shri Damodar Aushdhalaya in Kothi, the police told PTI.
Mishra, the operator of the clinic allegedly told the couple that Munishra’s pain was due to stones and she would have to be operated upon. The procedure would cost Rs 25,000, the quack said. The Rawats paid him Rs 20,000 in advance.
Tehbahadur alleged in his complaint that Mishra was under the influence of alcohol and started the procedure after watching a YouTube video.
In an inebriated state, Mishra allegedly made a deep incision in his wife’s abdomen, cutting several veins, following which she died the next evening.
Kothi SHO Amit Singh Bhadoriya has been quoted as saying that a case has been registered against the clinic operator and his nephew for causing death by negligence, along with sections under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.
Efforts are on to arrest the accused duo, who are absconding, he said.
The police also said that the nephew, Vivek Kumar Mishra, is employed with an ayurvedic hospital in Raebareli, and the illegal clinic was allegedly being operated for several years without any valid documents, under the cover of his government job.
Kothi community health centre superintendent Sanjeev Kumar sealed the clinic on Tuesday.
