Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Sunday apprehended Dharamgarh Sub-Collector Dhiman Chakma while allegedly accepting Rs 10 lakh bribe.
This was the first installment of Rs 20 lakh, which the 2021-batch IAS officer had allegedly demanded from a local business of Kalahandi district, threatening action against him.
“The sub-collector called the complainant to his official government residence at Dharamgarh, received the bribe amount, verified the bundles of notes of different denominations with both his hands, and kept the same inside a table drawer at his residence. Both hand wash and table drawer wash gave a positive chemical reaction,” a Vigilance release said.
Following this, another Rs 47 lakh in cash was recovered during searches at his official residence.
A case under Section 7 of Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, has been registered against him and further investigation is underway, it added.
