Odisha: Injured In Ragging, Junior Student of VSSUT Files Complaint With Burla Police
Sambalpur: In less than three months, another incident of alleged ragging of a junior student by the seniors at the Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) at Burla in the district has come to light.
In the latest incident, Manash Singh, a second year BTech student of the university, on Friday night filed an FIR at Burla police station alleging that six senior students beat him up as part of the ragging.
As per the FIR, Manash along with his friend had gone to Kirba Chhak where the senior students were present. The seniors, who were in an inebriated condition, called Manash and asked him to identify them. As Manash failed to tell their names, they beat him up mercilessly, injuring him in different parts of his body.
Later, Manash called his family and told about the incident. Accompanied by his brother, he went to Burla police station and filed the complaint identifying the accused senior students.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.
Despite repeated calls by Odisha Bytes, dean, students’ welfare Prof Sanjay Kumar Patro of the VSSUT did not respond to comment on the incident.
It may be mentioned that a third year student of the university was allegedly beaten up as he opposed to ragging by a senior student inside a hostel on September 23.
