Bhubaneswar: As the authorities intensified the crackdown on suspected Bangladeshi infiltrators across Odisha on Thursday, police raided the house of the prime accused who allegedly provided shelter to illegal intruders in Jagatsinghpur district.
Sources said Jagatsinghpur police conducted raid at the residence of Sikandar Alam, who allegedly provided rented accommodation to Bangladeshi infiltrators, in Dhani Pur slum area under heavy security deployment.
To ensure smooth search operation, two platoons of force were mobilised during the raid, which forms part of the statewide operation directed by the Odisha government to identify and act against illegal migrants.
A senior police official said that the operation is underway under the supervision of an Additional SP and the SDPO.
The authorities stepped up the crackdown in several districts, including Bhadrak, Kendrapada, and Keonjhar. In Jagatsinghpur, police had earlier demolished a suspected hideout in Beherampur and arrested four persons suspected to be Bangladeshi infiltrators.
Similarly, 17 suspected Bangladeshis were detained after days of surveillance in Bhadrak. A 12-hour shutdown was observed in Keonjhar demanding police action against alleged infiltrators.
Notably, Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan has warned that strict measures would continue to identify and deport all illegal infiltrators.
