Jharsuguda: The 141-year-old heritage post office building in Odisha’s Jharsuguda, has undergone a stunning overhaul.
“Minister of Railways, Communications, and Electronics & Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw has fulfilled his promise of renovating the Jharsuguda Post Office, a historical gem constructed in 1882. The minister’s commitment has materialised into a stunning renovation, preserving the architectural legacy,” the ECoR said in a release.
Renovation of the architectural legacy began after the post office was accorded a heritage tag in 2021. The Indian Railways and Department of Post together worked for its restoration and conservation.
During his Odisha visits in the past years, Vaishnaw visited the site and monitored the progress of the work.
Based on a petition from one Tankadhar Tripathy, Union Minister of Education and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan had sought heritage status for the post office in August 2021. He had also urged his Cabinet colleague for restoration, maintenance and re-operationalisation of the heritage building.
