Bhubaneswar: Eminent labour union leader Ghanashyam Jena breathed his last while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar on Monday. He was 93.
He passed away a day after his wife Hemalata Jena died of a heart attack.
Jena founded multiple trade union, including All India Food Corporation of India Workers Union, Paradip Dock Majdoor Union, All India Food and Allied Workers Union and All India Petroleum Products Handling & Carrier Employees Union. He was also the founder and chairman of FCI Workers Co-operative Society and Ghanashyam Hemalata Vidya Mandir Society, which launched a series of educational programmes to nurture and develop talents.
He also established the Ghanashyam Hemalata Institute of Technology and Management at Marine Drive in Puri, which was funded by members of labour unions.
