Bhubaneswar: Three days after the body of a 28-year-old cameraman, murdered and buried by his killers in Odisha’s Nayagarh district, was exhumed, police on Tuesday claimed that the owner of a web portal where Manas Kumar Swain used to work was behind his killing.
Swain worked at a web portal based in Bhubaneswar and also took up freelancing assignments.
Police have arrested two accused, who they said murdered Swain and buried his body on the outskirts of Badhipatna village in Narendrapur panchayat under Ranpur in Nayagarh district. On March 12, police exhumed his body after interrogating the arrested accused.
The owner of the web portal, who is a woman, remains at large. The police carried out raids at a location in Airfield area of Bhubaneswar to arrest her, according to reports.
On February 5, Swain had boarded a bus from Bhubaneswar for a wedding shoot in Chandbali, Bhadrak. He was kidnapped on February 7, police said. When he did not return, his family lodged a complaint with Chandbali police on February 14.
According to police, after kidnapping him the accused brought him to the state capital, where he was killed. The accused buried the body in his native place to evade suspicion.
The arrested accused were taken to the spot where Swain’s body was buried to recreate the crime scene.
