Berhampur: A youth from Odisha’s Ganjam district was arrested for allegedly duping a job seeker of over Rs 30 lakh by promising employment as Indian Police Service (IPS) officer.
The accused, identified as Kanha Patra, is a resident of Sriram Nagar under the jurisdiction of Nimakhandi police station in Berhampur city.
As per sources, Patra posed as a high-ranking Inspector General (IG) and used social media platforms, especially Instagram, to target job aspirants. He allegedly promised the victim to arrange a job of IPS officer in exchange for large sums of money.
The victim, stated to be from West Bengal, was reportedly lured into paying more than Rs 30 lakh, both in cash and through online payment methods.
The fraud came to light when the victim lodged a complaint with local authorities in West Bengal, leading to a coordinated investigation.
Following the investigation, Patra was arrested by the Nimakhandi Police at his residence. He was then taken into custody by the West Bengal Police to facilitate further probe in the case.
