Mohana: A man died after allegedly being stabbed over suspected past enmity during a wedding procession at Chandragiri village under Mohana police limits in Odisha’s Gajapati district on Tuesday night.
The deceased has been identified as Prashant Pradhan.
According to sources, the accused, Srihari Pradhan, stabbed Prashant, who was part of the procession, and fled the spot. A critically-injured Prashant was rushed Chandragiri Community Health Centre, but he succumbed during treatment.
Tension ran high in the area as irate villagers torched the house of the accused, asking police, which had arrested Srihari, to hand him over to them. They also blocked NH-326, disrupting vehicular movement.
Sources further said that Srihari and Prashant had a quarrel over a game on Maha Shivratri. The alleged stabbing is being suspected to be the fallout of this incident.
Policemen have been deployed in the area to avoid any further flare-ups.
