Bhubaneswar: Several districts of Odisha are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next 3-4 days due to the formation of a low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal, Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) director Manorama Mohanty has said.
According to her, a cyclonic circulation is currently active over the south-east Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the north-west Bay of Bengal within the next 24 hours. This system may intensify further and impact Odisha’s weather significantly.
Due to this development, widespread rainfall with heavy to very heavy spells is expected in many districts of the state including Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Kandhamal, and Rayagada.
Heavy showers are likely to continue till July 8 in districts such as Sambalpur, Bargarh, and Jharsuguda, with rainfall intensity decreasing gradually from July 9 onward. However, light to moderate rainfall will continue in many regions from July 9 to 12.
Farmers and the local administrations have been advised by the IMD to stay alert and take necessary precautions, especially in vulnerable areas. Thunderstorms and lightning are also expected in some regions over the next two days.
