Odisha Medical College Gets Most Advanced Tool In Eastern India
Sambalpur: In a first for eastern India, Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla in Odisha’s Sambalpur district has received a state-of-the-art medical tool for students.
The anatomy department has installed the most-advanced dissection table — Anatomage Virtual Dissection Table — that will enhance classroom teaching and also boost career prospects for medical practitioners passing out of VIMSAR, the Times of India quoted a source as saying.
The Odisha State Medical Corporation Limited has provided the tool to the medical college. The cost of the total system is Rs 3.4 crore, the report said.
#Boon For Students
Head of the anatomy department Professor BK Dutta said this latest tool will be a boon for medical education. “The students can now visualise the whole body in digitised form. The Medical Council of India (MCI) has also included this in its study curriculum. The technology came to India in 2012 and VIMSAR got it this year. This is the first in eastern India,” he said.
#What’s New
Dutta informed that the anatomage table is the only fully-segmented real human 3-D anatomy system. That is, it will allow students to visualise the anatomy as in a real cadaver. “With a simple swipe of their finger, students can rotate a simulated patient 360 degrees and dissect in any direction—and at any depth—to reveal anatomical features in vivid details,” he added.
“The students can also visualise heart-beat and respiration and they can even zoom in to view structures as small as nerves and blood vessels. The table can also be used as a tool for patient consultation and pioneering medical research. The table allows exploration of the human anatomy beyond what any cadaver could offer.”
