Odisha Minister Writes To Centre To Make Medical College In Talcher Operational

Bhubaneswar: The state government has sought the Centre’s intervention in operationalising the Medical College and Hospital at Talcher in Angul district.

In a letter to Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Mansukh Mandaviya, Odisha Health Minister Naba Kisore Das on Friday said the Mahanadi Coal Fields Limited (MCL) had signed an MoU with the state government in 2014 to establish a 500-bed Medical College and Hospital at Talcher as part of its CSR commitment.

The government has provided 20 acre of land free of cost to the MCL for the medical college which was planned to have 100 seats for the students. The MCL had made the commitment to operationalise the medical college in 2016-17 academic year.

“The construction of the campus was completed in 2019-20. But, the infrastructure has not been utilised for starting the medical college and hospital for the last two years,” Das said in the letter.

He requested the Central government to take suitable steps for early operationalisation of the medical college which will strengthen the healthcare services in the region.
