Odisha: Missing ‘Gang-Rape Survivor’ Rescued While Attempting Suicide

Paradip: An Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA), who went missing three days ago after allegedly being gang raped, was rescued from Gadakujanga in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district on Monday while attempting suicide.

According to sources, she was rescued by locals near a railway track and taken to Gadakujanga. Later, her father reached the spot and brought her back home.

The gang-rape survivor contemplated suicide unable to bear mental anguish, the sources added.

Notably, police nabbed two persons three days after the incident, which took place on August 27 evening when the 28-year-old survivor was forcibly abducted in a car by four youths to Nehrubangla and gang-raped. The accused later dumped her near Nuabazar. While police identified the main accused as Jatin Mallick from Nuabazar and his accomplice as Badal Mallick, a resident of Paradip’s Madhuban, the car used in the crime was also seized.

Thereafter, she went missing and a complaint was lodged by her family on September 3.
