Cuttack: In a fresh setback for BJD MLA Bijay Shankar Das, his application for registration of marriage has been rejected by the office of the district sub-registrar (DSR), Cuttack.
According to reports, the Tirtol MLA’s application for marriage with Pratyusha Nanda was rejected by the DSR citing certain errors.
The application of Bijay Shankar was rejected after it was reportedly found during scrutiny that Pratyusha was a divorcee, while it was mentioned in his plea that she was unmarried.
The legislator was, however, not immediately available for comment on the development.
Trouble had surfaced for the legislator last month after his former fiancée Somalika Dash submitted an objection to his application for marriage with another woman. She subsequently filed evidence in the office of DSR in support of her objection to Bijay Shankar’s application for marriage with Pratyusha.
She had reportedly filed the documentary proof pertaining to her claim that Pratyusha was married and had divorced from her husband. Somalika had also appeared in the DSR office on November 7 in connection with her complaint against application of Bijay for registration of marriage with Pratyusha.
In her written complaint, Somalika cited past instances of betrayal and sexual harassment.
It may be noted that Somalika had filed an FIR against the BJD legislator in Jagatsinghpur police station on October 7, demanding justice in light of the pending case against him. “I am seeking justice for the harassment I endured. Despite the registration of two cases earlier, Das has not been summoned by the police nor called in for questioning,” she had alleged.
She had made a series of allegations, including rape, against the MLA after he did not turn up for their wedding at the sub-registrar office in Jagatsinghpur on June 17, 2022.
