Bhubaneswar: It’s not the first time that Chilika MLA Prashant Jagdev has been booked by the police.
Jagdev on Saturday drove his vehicle into a crowd outside the Banapur block development office. A total of 22 people, including seven police personnel, were injured in the incident. Seven of them had to be shifted to Bhubaneswar for treatment.
The MLA has been charged with attempt to murder.
Ten cases were registered against him between 1992 and 2019, according to Jagdev’s affidavit filed during the 2019 general elections.
1992: The first criminal case was registered against him by the Khurda Road Government Railway Police under Section 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) and other IPC sections and the Railways Act, the TNIE reported.
2016: Jagdev, who was BJD MLA from Bolagarh-Begunia, along with party supporters brutally assaulted BJP workers protesting against the then Minister of State for Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Sanjay Das Burma in Boudh. He was booked under IPC sections and the Arms Act.
