[Watch] ‘Put Them In Jail’: Know What MP Aparajita Sarangi Said On Chilika MLA, Violence In Odisha’s Capital

Bhubaneswar: Describing the incident involving BJD MLA Prashant Jagdev as unprecedented in Odisha’s political history, MP Aparajita Sarangi on Saturday demanded that the BJD-ruled state government put him in jail in 48 hours.

“Suspension is not punishment, Jagdev’s place is in jail. The Odisha government should put him behind bars within 48 hours,” the BJP MP from Bhubaneswar said at a press conference here.

“The state government has suspended Jagdev and said the law will take its course… in 24 hours, 48 hours, 72 hours?” she asked.

“I’m from the Indian Administrative Service. The law has to take its course within a definite timeframe. The law cannot be allowed to take its course for as long as it wants to,” Aparajita said.

“What happened in Banapur town is dangerous. It shows the complete breakdown of law and order in the state and that political violence has reached unprecedented levels,” the MP added.

Aparajita also condemned the murderous attack on family members of a party corporator candidate in Odisha’s capital on Friday night.

She said they had demanded that the Commissionerate Police arrest the culprits involved in the violence at Laxmisagar in Bhubaneswar should be arrested in 24 hours.

She said that it was no longer a BJP-BJD fight but the incidents don’t augur well for the people of Odisha, the people of Chilika or the people of Laxmisagar in Bhubaneswar.

“Odisha is the land of Lord Jagannath. The state’s people love peace, they don’t like violence,” she said.

Aparajita said the political violence in Banapur and Laxmisagar has exposed the arrogance of the ruling BJD in Odisha.

“The BJP has won Assembly elections in four states, which we have accepted humbly. We have accepted the BJD’s victory in the panchayat polls. The BJD should accept victory humbly and not turn it into a show of arrogance,” she said.

Jagdev on Saturday drove his vehicle into a crowd, which was waiting outside the Banapur block development office when an indirect election for the post of block chairman was underway.

A total of 22 persons, including seven police personnel, were injured in the incident and seven among them had to be shifted to Bhubaneswar for better treatment.

In Laxminagar, five family members of a BJP corporator candidate for the upcoming ULB elections were brutally attacked allegedly by BJD supporters on Friday night.

“It was a murderous attack on the victims. It’s unfortunate that they were attacked in front of Laxmisagar police station. The condition of three of them is critical. One of them is in the ICU,” she said.

“A rally was taken out at the spot on Saturday which means the attackers are still roaming scot-free. Two vehicles belonging to BJP members were also damaged,” Aparajita said.
