Odisha MLA Stages Unique Protest Against Disqualification Of Rahul Gandhi

Bhubaneswar: With the Congress resorting to protests across the country against disqualification of its leader Rahul Gandhi from Lok Sabha, the party’s senior leader in Odisha Taraprasad Bahinipati staged a unique dharna by putting a lock on his mouth.

Jeypore MLA along with his supporters sat on dharna in front of Mahatma Gandhi statue in the town to express their solidarity with Rahul Gandhi. The Congress workers held placards written with “Murder of Democracy and having a red cross on a picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
While the party workers raised slogans against the BJP government at the Centre for its action against Rahul Gandhi, the MLA wore a face mask with a lock dangling with it on the mouth. “The democracy in the country is at stake. When Rahul Gandhi was on Baharat Yatra, he had said he was on padyatra to save democracy in the country. He has been proved by the action of the Centre,” he said.
Bahinipati said the democracy has been reduced to concentration of power in only one person – the prime minister – and it functions through only two machineries of CBI and ED. “The hasty way the membership of Rahul Gandhi was suspended after his conviction in a case without giving him time to appeal in higher court puts a question mark on functionality of democracy in the country. The current government has not only uprooted the democracy but also murdered the spirit of the Constitution,” he added.
