Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has started putting up ads on buses in London to promote the Men’s Hockey World Cup Bhubaneswar 2018.
The campaign ‘Odisha by Morning, Hockey by Evening’ is an attempt to showcase Bhubaneswar as a sporting venue and Odisha as a tourist destination.
The state is the title partner for the hockey event and Odisha Tourism is the host partner. Maximum players in the national team are also from Odisha.
Commissioner-cum-secretary, Sports & Youth Services department and Odisha Tourism, Vishal Dev was quoted by Times of India saying, “The campaign is a combination of sports and tourism which is exactly how we want to showcase Odisha to the world. This is in essence a Sports Tourism campaign and we have decided to portray the same through storytelling about interesting things to do in Odisha and the euphoria which the hockey tournament will create. I am positive that teams, fans and tourists, who will visit Odisha in November, will relish the ambience and the experience.”
“Bus advertising is a proven way of making an impact in a busy city like London. Reaching right across the capital from the centre to the airports, the iconic London buses are an excellent way for travel, sports and tourism outfits to reach the busy city dwellers, who might be planning their next escape,” he added.
The World Cup matches will start on November 28 and continue till December 16 this year.
Two matches would be played a day from 5.00 pm onwards. Quarter final would be played on December 12 and 13. Semi-final and final matches have been scheduled for December 15 and 16 respectively. Champion teams from 16 countries would participate.
