Odisha MP Pratap Sarangi Vacates Lutyens’ Bungalow in New Delhi After Ultimatum

Bhubaneswar: Former Union Minister and Balasore MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi has vacated the government bungalow in New Delhi following ultimatum from Directorate of Estates under the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry.

Sarangi, who was Minister of State for Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in the second term of BJP government at the Centre, was allocated one of the Lutyens’ bungalows in New Delhi.

He was dropped from the Cabinet during the ministry reshuffle on July 7, 2021. As per the government norms, he was supposed to vacate the bungalow within a month after he ceased to be a minister. But Sarangi continued to occupy the bungalow despite repeated reminders from the Directorate of Estates.

A team from Directorate of Estates had evicted two other MPs, Chirag Pswan, son of former Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan, and Ratanlal Kataria from their bungalows in Lutyens’ Delhi by on March 29. At the time, the team had also gone to Sarangi’s bungalow for eviction.

After Sarangi assured them of evicting the bungalow soon, the team issued an ultimatum and returned.

On Thursday, Srangi shifted along with his belongings to a flat meant for the MPs at C 1/4, Humayun Road in Delhi.
