Odisha Officer Given Compulsory Retirement After Vigilance Raid & Arrest

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Tuesday ordered compulsory retirement of Prashanta Rout, the former Nabarangpur Additional Sub-Collector who was arrested recently in a disproportionate assets case.

Over Rs 3 crore unaccounted cash were seized from his residences in Bhubaneswar and Nabarangpur during simultaneously searches by the Vigilance sleuths on June 23. He was arrested the following day for allegedly accumulating over Rs 5 crore assets, 506% of his known sources of income.

A multi-storey building, five plots, bank and insurance deposits of over Rs 62 lakh (Rs 21 lakh in Benami account) and 2 four-wheelers were also unearthed. The OAS officer spent Rs 87 lakh on the education of his children. He also made regular cash deposits in a number of Benami bank accounts.

Notably, four cases of misconducted is lodged against Rout and departmental inquiry is on.

So far, 188 corrupt officers have either been prematurely retired or dismissed from the service or their pension halted permanently.
