Bhubaneswar: A special team of Jajpur police arrested Prafulla Prusty, father-in-law of senior OAS officer and Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Deputy Zonal Commissioner Pramod Kumar Prusty late on Thursday night in connection with the alleged rape of a minor tribal girl in the Odisha capital.
Following a medical examination, he will be produced in a court on Friday, police said.
The girl has been working as a domestic help at the officer’s Shailashree Vihar residence for the last two years and she is now five months pregnant.
The matter came to light after the girl narrated her ordeal before her family members while home at Nanapur village in Jajpur district on Durga Puja holiday.
Her mother then filed a complaint at Balichandrapur police station, alleging that her daughter was repeatedly raped by Prafulla Prusty for five to six months.
Besides, action will be taken against the OAS officer in accordance with the Child Labour Law. The cops are also looking for the middleman Brahmananda Barik, who had engaged the girl at the house, sources added.
On Wednesday afternoon, a team from the Balichandrapur police station had raided his house but didn’t find him and his father-in-law.
Meanwhile, the BMC has told the police that the OAS officer is on leave.
