Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Thursday apprehended Manoj Mohanty, a section officer posted in the office of Sub Divisional Veterinary Officer (SDVO) in Puri, while allegedly accepting Rs 6,000 brine from a staffer.
According to a Vigilance release, he had demanded illegal gratification to process the EV (Electric Vehicle) advance sanctioned in favour of the complainant of Rench in Nimapara block, which falls under the jurisdiction of the SDVO, and three others.
Mohanty was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe money, which was later recovered from him and seized.
Simultaneous searches are currently underway at two locations linked to the section officer to ascertain whether he has accumulated assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
A case has been registered under Section 7 of PC (Amendment) Act, 2018, and further investigation is underway.
