Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government is planning to construct three ring roads, totalling 645 km, under the proposed Bhubaneswar-Cuttack-Puri-Paradip Economic Region (BCPPER) corridor.

This was revealed at a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi at Lok Seva Bhawan here on Wednesday.

The three ring roads are as follows:

>> A 432-km Capital Ring Road from Paradip via Tangi, Saptasajya, and Rameshwar to Puri, proposed to be integrated with the central government’s existing 111-km Capital Region Ring Road project.

>> A 148-km Outer Ring Road passing through Jatamundia-Trishulia-Urali in Cuttack district to Balipatna-Pipili-Jatni-Khurda.

>> A 65-km Inner Ring Road from Tamando in Khurda district via Chandaka-Pahala-Dhauli.

Additionally, railway infrastructure will see a boost with plans for a 32-km rail line from Puri to Konark and a 70-km line from Konark to Bhubaneswar via Nimapada.

These are part of the ‘Greater Bhubaneswar Region’ envisaged to play a key role in Odisha’s vision of achieving a USD 500 billion economy by 2036 and USD 1.5 trillion economy by 2047.

The inclusion of Paradip, a major port city, is expected to drive substantial industrial growth across the region. Sectors such as agriculture and fisheries, manufacturing, transportation, port-based industries, chemicals, textiles, and IT are poised for rapid expansion. Tourism is also slated for special focus, leveraging the region’s cultural and coastal attractions.

Emphasis on developing all cities in the region as “growth hubs”, the Chief Minister directed officials to prepare tailored development plans to transform these urban centres into engines of economic progress. He also instructed departments to coordinate with NITI Aayog to accelerate the projects. He called for new policies where needed and amendments to existing ones to ensure smooth implementation, with particular emphasis on tourism development.

The meeting was attended by Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Development Commissioner Anu Garg and Principal Secretary Usha Padhee, among others.
